The 1927 Legacy: A Lesson in Structural Integrity
My motto isn’t a marketing slogan. It is a family legacy born from the highest stakes imaginable.
In the spring of 1927, a brilliant young aeronautical engineer named Donald A. Hall Sr. sat at his drafting table in a second-story office overlooking San Diego Bay. He had exactly 60 days to design and construct a single-engine aircraft capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean nonstop to win the Orteig Prize.
Every line he drew with his graphite pencil, every structural load calculation he ran on his mechanical slide rule, was a life-or-death decision. If his math failed, Charles Lindbergh wouldn't just lose a race—he would lose his life. On May 21, 1927, that 60-day miracle, the Spirit of St. Louis, touched down safely in Paris.
Decades later, a heavy green World War I steamer trunk stenciled D.A.H. was opened in a family garage. Inside sat the original hand-drawn blueprints, personal logs, letters, photographic negatives and the very slide rule that calculated the flight.
Discovering that trunk transformed my perspective on asset protection and copyrights. It proved that true safety is never born from luck—it is engineered through meticulous detail, deep integrity, and anticipating failures before they manifest. Trusts and personal estate planning followed this realization when my book was published in 2001.
